No sabía quien
This past Sunday, we went to the theater to see the work of
Federico Garcia Lorca, called “Yerma.”
We read the written work for class in January. To see the work in the theater was a
completely different experience than to read it. I liked that in the theater, we could hear
the songs and see what was happening.
The songs in the text were simply poetry. Also, I like that the theater can show more
emotions than a text. For example, I
could see the tension between Yerma and Juan, and the passion in the scene
where Yerma and Victor almost kissed each other. When I read the work, I didn’t realize that
the relationship between Yerma and Victor was that way. Also, I didn’t feel as much tension between
Yerma and her husband, Juan, in the text.
One thing that I like better in the text is that the
dialogue of only one person can be read at a time. In the theater, specifically in the scenes
with all of the women, all were speaking at the same time. At times, it was difficult to understand what
they were saying because there were too many voices at the same time. Also, it was a little difficult to know who
the characters were. I didn’t know who
were the neighbors, the girls, and the little girls.
