Semana Santa en Granada

Pase la semana pasada en Granada; fue una semana muy interesante y diferente que todas las otras porque fue Semana Santa. Cada día fue entre 3-5 procesiones que pasaron por todos los calles. Me parece que toda la ciudad fue en las calles para verlos. No me gusta la multitud, pero fue una cosa que quise ver. Las procesiones fueron increíbles y muy bonitas; fueron muchos niños en traje religioso y los nazarenos fueron muy impresionables. Al principio fue un poco extraño porque sus trajes son los mismos del KKK en los estados unidos; nuestro maestro del historia del arte dijo que el KKK copio los nazarenos.  Las iconografías de las iglesias fueron muy bonitas; y durante la procesión final del Día de la Resurrección, fui muy cerca y pude tocarlo! Fue un “Easter” muy diferente que en los estados unidos; pero fue fenomenal que los españoles dedicaran una semana entera para celebrar la vida, muerte, y resurrección de Jesús. Llovió durante la semana, una cosa que es normal durante Semana Santa, pero fue una semana relajante, cultural, y agradable.

I spent this past week in Granada; it was a very interesting week and different than all of the other because it was Holy Week. Each day there were between 3-5 processions that passed through all of the streets. It seemed to me that the entire city was in the street to see them. I don’t like crowds, but it was something I wanted to see. The processions were incredible and very pretty; there were many kids in religious clothing and the Nazarenes (natives of Nazareth) were very impressionable. At the beginning it was a little strange because their outfits were the same as the KKK in the USA; our art history teacher said that the KKK copied the Nazarenes. The religious representations from the Churches were beautiful; and during the final procession of the Day of the Resurrection, I was really close and was able to touch it! It was a very different Easter than in the USA; but it was phenomenal that the Spanish dedicated a whole week to celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It rained during the week, something that is normal during Holy Week, but it was a relaxing, cultural, and enjoyable week.
