Me
Figuras.
A little piece of advice to the people who live with Afri
and Loli next semester: if you plan on going up on the roof, make sure you know
how to get back down. Two weeks ago, Kelly and I decided we wanted to sit in
the sun on the terrace (the roof of our apartment building) and read our books.
This seemed like a great idea at the time, so we got the keys from Loli,
promised not to make too much noise, and then made our way up the stairs. After
sitting outside for quite some time, I decided it was time to go back inside
before we had to be at a tango show for class. If only it was that simple. The
key that got us onto the roof was not working to get us off of the roof and
back into the apartment. We were stuck. We tried calling our señoras, but no
one was picking up their phone, and they had just left to go grocery shopping
(which takes forever in Spain). So, with nothing else to do, we called our
instructor, Lay for advice. Laughing at our situation, Lay gave us the idea of
getting in touch with our señoras and throwing the keys from the top of the
apartment so they could let us off the roof. After sitting around for a while
trying to get in touch with our señoras, Afri finally picked up the phone. She
came outside, caught the keys and let us off of the roof.
I would like to leave the end of the story out so the next
people who live in this apartment have the same hilarious experience, but that
would just be cruel. So here’s the trick… come to find out, the key only works
to get onto the terrace. You have to kick the door as hard as you can with your
foot to let yourself back down. Figures.
